Living in farm country, I don't go to the beach very often. Yes, I am sad about this too. There are none that close to me. So, I'm not 100% sure what exactly constitutes a "beach read". When I went last summer, I think I was reading one of the Black Dagger Brotherhood novels...
So, naturally, I googled it. This is a definition I found in About.com's Bestsellers section:
"A good beach book is engaging and a quick enough read that you can finish most of it before your sunscreen wears off. Beach reading isn't necessarily literature, but it will entertain."Engaging. Quick. Entertaining. Okay, here are my top beach reads!
- Any of the Private Series by Kate Brian
- Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski (click here for my review!)
- Stuff White People Like by Christian Lander
- The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han (note: I haven't actually read this yet, but if I were leaving for the beach right no, it is the book I would grab.)
- Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
- Wake by Lisa McMann
- Memoirs of a Monster Hunter by Josh Gates
As much as I love the beach, it's sort of a special occasion in my life. Leave me a comment below with your favourite beach read, so I can be prepared for when I force myself to go more often this summer!
Much love, Samantha
It's so funny how we take things for granted. I've been reading a lot of posts about people who don't live near the beach. I'm 30 mins from the Jersey Shore (like the show unfortunately lol). I always take it for granted though. Anyways I agree with that definition. I usually like chick lit or some YA contemp because it's usually light and funny with a little romance. I want to read Ten things we Did and Wake this summer. Great list! My Top Ten Tuesday
ReplyDeleteWake is great. It's a little heavier than chick lit, but it's a quick and good read.
DeleteI wish I lived closer to the beach. We don't even have any real lakes around here. I can get to a beach in under 2 hours, but that distance makes it into a full day planned outing sort of thing.
Great choices. I am gonna add to my already LONG tbr pile!! Come check mine too:
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten post!
Thanks, and same here. I keep browsing lists and just finding more and more books I need to read.
DeleteLOVED Ten things we did!! This book is completely hilarious and awesome and crazy and April rocks! :D :D Great list! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove Stuff White People like as a book for the beach! I would also choose The Summer I Turn Pretty if I were heading to the beach right now.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great! I love a book that can make fun of itself.
DeleteGreat list! Stuff White People like sounds hilarious.
ReplyDeleteP.S. New follower via GFC :)
DeleteThank you! Definitely check it out. It is basically a list-turned-book of stereotypes about white people. There is also a sequel called Whiter Shades of Pale.
DeleteI ALSO want to read The Summer I Turned Pretty! But on my nook, because I don't want to be seen in public with that book title :-)
ReplyDeleteBahahaa, that is actually a good point.
